Rouge d’Hiver (Red Romaine) displays striking red-brown, flat, smooth leaves with green veins that form a distinctive loose Romaine head.
A very old variety dated at least the 1800’s, very hardy, productive and slow to bolt. An excellent choice for home or market gardeners.
Sow seeds 1/8” deep when soil can be worked, after danger of frost or 3-4 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Very cold hardy and can often be grown in fall and in mild winters with much success. Can also be grown is mass seedings to use young for baby greens.
Approximately 1 teaspoon of seeds per package.
