Revive Terra Cotta Containers
More Information
The porosity of clay containers offer many advantages for growing strong and healthy plants. Clay and terra cotta containers can also add to garden ambiance. Since terra cotta containers absorb a lot of water, they also absorb minerals from the soil and fertilizers. It is essential that they be cleaned and sterilized at the end of each season to keep from these absorbed particles from being spread to new plants in the spring. It also helps to get rid of any fungus or mold that has developed so that it does not infect the plants or damage your container.
It’s Easy:
To remove the salt deposits that form on clay pots, combine equal parts white vinegar, rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle. Apply the mixture to the pot and scrub with a plastic brush. Give your pots a thorough rinse and them let dry before re-potting anything into them.
OR… Make a paste from baking soda and water. Spread the paste over the build up and use the soft brush to gently scrub it away. Give a thorough rinse and allow to dry before use.
