Flat, 3″ long leaves stand out horizontally, a great addition to any herb garden!

Indoors: sow seed  6-8 weeks before last frost date. Days to germination 5-10 days. When all danger of frost is past, transfer plants outside when seedlings have 3-4 sets of leaves, in a sunny location, spacing 12-18″ apart, in rows 18″ apart.

Outdoors: Direct sow seed after last frost date and soil is warm. Thin plants to 12-18″ apart. Days to germination: 5-10 days. 65-70 days to harvest.

Harvest – light harvesting of leaves may begin after plants have become established. It is best done in the early morning when the temperature is cooler, and the leaves are less likely to wilt. Full harvest should be done just before plants start to flower. Cut the entire plant 4″-6″ above the ground to promote a second growth. Leaves are easily bruised when picking, so handle with care. Store Basil above 50 degrees F. after harvest. If exposed to temperatures lower than 50 degrees F, basil can suffer from cold damage. Use a separate cooler space for cut basil, where you can control the temperature, or store in a cool, dark place.

1/4 teaspoon of Heirloom/Organic seeds per package (well over 100 seeds)
Never GMO!

Brilliant Rainbow Quinoa https://backyarddiva.ca/brilliant-rainbow-quinoa/ https://backyarddiva.ca/brilliant-rainbow-quinoa/#comments Tue, 21 Jan 2014 16:10:55 +0000 admin https://backyarddiva.ca/?p=4474 Heirloom Brilliant Rainbow Quinoa blend has striking colors of hot pink, burgundy, red, orange, yellow, white and green. Harvest the young leaves to eat raw or cooked. Colorful seed heads mature in 90-120 days. Deer resistant, beautiful plant to grow for ornamental or edible purposes.

When to sow outside: Cold Climates: 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost when soil temperatures are near 60° F. Warm Climates: In late summer or early fall for late fall or winter bloom.

When to start inside: 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost. Germination can occur rapidly. Seedlings will develop long, spindly fragile red stems when light isn’t adequate, or they are kept inside too long.

Harvesting: Quinoa is ready to harvest about 90 – 120 days after sowing, when the leaves begin to fall, leaving just the dried seedheads. Harvest before heavy autumn precipitation, and before seeds start falling to the ground. Seeds can be easily stripped upwards off the stalk with a gloved hand, or shaken out over a bucket.

Your package will include approximately 60+ seeds
