Camellia Tree
More Information
The classic Camellia Tree
Camellias are evergreen growing up to 20 meters tall with nice glossy leaves. Their flowers are usually large and the colours vary from white through pink to red; truly yellow flowers are found only in South China and North Vietnam. Blooming earlier in the Spring.
The various species of camellia plants are generally well-adapted to acidic soils rich in humus, and require a large amount of water. Camellia plants usually have a rapid growth rate and generally prefer a shady location.
My Camellia placed in a shady damp location about 4 feet from the side of a building to help protect it in the windy months, my Great Grandmother was a Camellia fan, I always remember her looking forward to the different coloured blooms each Spring. It is also said that Camellia (sinensis) is grown specifically to make medicinal green tea from the leaves.
