Bulgarian Giant Leek
Referred to as the “gourmet’s onion,” these larger versions of green onions have a more flavorful and milder taste.
More Information
This is an excellent European heirloom leek with extremely long stems and consistent bulb formation. It is highly regarded by chefs for its good quality flavor and
ease of handling in the kitchen.
Leeks are easier to grow than onions, and more suited to colder climates. Direct sow in early summer for fall harvest or 6 – 8 weeks early indoors for summer harvest, transplant outdoors in early spring while temperatures are still cool.
The best place for growing leeks is in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. When planting leeks in the garden, make a shallow trench (about four to five inches deep) and place the plants inside, spacing about six inches apart and covering with only a light amount of soil. Be sure to water leeks thoroughly and add a layer of organic mulch. As the leeks grow, use the excavated soil from the trench to slowly build up around the stem to keep out light.
Your package will include 1/2 teaspoon of heirloom/organic seeds. Well over 100 seeds, enough for a spring and fall planting!
